My Help and Deliverer

5 But as for me, I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God.
You are my help and my deliverer; Lord, do not delay. Psalm 70:5

This verse is almost identical to Psalm 40:17. Being poor and needy is not a bad thing. It’s merely a realization that you cannot “do this” on your own. You are at the mercy of God to save and deliver. Many believe this entire chapter was a reference to Christ, and if you look at it in that light, it makes total sense.

The Son of God desperately needed God the Father to come and rescue Him. The eternal significance of that statement is mind-boggling to me. If Jesus, the perfect Son of the Most High God, was desperate for help from God the Father, how shall we then act?

I’ve stated in this space many times that dependence on God is never a weakness. Even if there are no real problems in your life, reliance on God for strength and hope builds your faith. Tomorrow your world could turn upside down, and you would have that strengthened faith to fall back on.
