As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. Psalm 42:1
This verse is perhaps the start of one of the more well-known passages in Scripture. The imagery is vivid and unmistakable. It’s a passage that could easily be memorized one verse at a time little by little. Chances are good that you already know this verse with almost no effort on your part.
As you begin memorizing this verse and the subsequent passage, remember some of the benefits of Scripture memorization.
- The Word of God is powerful. The Spirit of God can and does use it for His glory.
- Enables you to meditate on the most powerful words known to man.
- You are able to filter and evaluate world events and teachings more Scripturally.
- It encourages you in your daily walk.
I still maintain that everybody can memorize with enough time and determination. This verse is a great start. Read it at least 10 times out loud, then close your eyes and recite it. If it’s not ingrained yet, then read it another 10 times. The benefits far outweigh the time it took you to memorize it.
