3 He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Psalm 121:3-8
Have you ever gone without sleep for twenty-four hours? Do you remember doing things during that time and falling asleep doing it? I know that when I fade in and out of consciousness during those times, it’s fun to read what I’ve written. I’ve written entire paragraphs while I was almost asleep. It’s not pretty but it’s very funny to read. (Don’t worry though. I’ve written most of these posts when I was fully awake and aware of what I was writing. Most of them).
So when the psalmist wrote that God does not sleep nor slumber, it got my attention. He doesn’t need to sleep. Certainly he rested on the seventh day of creation but He didn’t sleep. You see, He’s got a world to take care of. He’s actively engaged in what is happening around the world.
Middle of the night prayers are as valid as middle of the day prayers.
Your concerns and mine are His concerns. If it’s on your heart, tell Him and it’ll be on His heart.
One response to “No Sleep Nor Slumber”
it is so good to know that the one in charge of the power switch to this world does not sleep – that means we can rest easy because he is always watching out for us! Good words!
