Not Of This World

On the contrary:

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:20-21

Feeding your enemy and giving him something to drink is “not of this world.”
Helping your enemy when he’s in a desperate situation is “not of this world.”
Overcoming evil with good is certainly “not of this world.”

From these two verses alone we can deduce that being a Christian means we will be doing things that are contrary to how people “in the world” do things. We most certainly will not enjoy doing those things because, quite frankly, we’re doing it for someone who may hate us.

But the Christian life is rarely about having an easy life. It is about doing the right thing in all circumstances. And often enough, the right thing is the thing we would never do on our own. Why? Because we’d most certainly want to do what the previous verses taught us not to do: take revenge, live at peace.

The Wisdom of God astounds and perplexes.
