6 They return at evening,
snarling like dogs,
and prowl about the city.
7 See what they spew from their mouths—
the words from their lips are sharp as swords,
and they think, “Who can hear us?”
8 But you laugh at them, Lord;
you scoff at all those nations. Psalm 59:6-8
I’m sure it was the height of insults for David to compare his enemies to dogs, but what did he care?
David did have confidence in God’s ability to annihilate his enemies if He chose. David himself was at the short end of Goliath’s mocking so he knows a bit about mocking.
What I take away from these verses is that the Lord is not worried about nations, rulers, peoples, or those who strongly oppose Him. He must be amused at the arrogance of those who mock Him publicly. Similarly, I believe He listens closer when a non-believer is desperately seeking Him. In those cases, there’s no mockery, laughing, or ridicule. Even if that person has led a wicked life, He still has compassion on those who seek Him.
I read the news today that 244 Muslims in Saudi Arabia entered a Christless eternity when they were trampled during their pilgrimage. While I do not know for absolute certain, it’s a pretty good guess that there is a small remnant of Christians who made it into Mecca and Medina this week (only Muslims are allowed in those cities during the Hajj).
Would you pray for those who are bold enough to go to such a place (if they are “caught”, they would probably be killed for it) that they would find favor and willing listeners. There’s a lot of spiritual darkness in Saudi Arabia, and any light that shines is a very good thing. Pray for boldness and wisdom for these young men who would obey God rather than man.
One response to “Not Worried”
standing in fervent prayer agreement with you that God would not let his enemies stand and that he would protect those who stand for him.
