Nourished on the Truths of the Faith

6 If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. 1 Timothy 4:6

This is an interesting phrase, “nourished on the truths of the faith.” I’ve never considered truth to be something that nourishes me.

Many years ago I recall a story where a man told a pastor that he really can’t remember sermons a month out and often can’t recall them from a few days before. The pastor asked, “What did you have for lunch six days ago?” If he answered, he then asked, “what did you have for supper on the 30th of last month?” In both instances, it’d be difficult to recall what the person ate. But to be sure, the person ate. Whatever he had to eat nourished him. More than likely, he took in a large heaping of truth wrapped inside of doctrine, and conveyed through a story.

Wherever and whenever you can, find nourishment from the truth in the Bible, through sermons, in worship songs, and through others. Don’t be afraid of doling out a fistful of truth when you need.
