Set a guard over my mouth, Lord;
keep watch over the door of my lips. Psalm 141:3
Oh that this verse played over and over in my mind 24/7!
Once again, David recognized how powerful and dangerous the tongue was. I think we all do.
Some get fired up on politics, doctrine, or social issues. Others are quieter and can’t wait to get the latest “scoop” on friends or enemies.
It’s very easy these days to have strong opinions about the election and the two major candidates running.
If you haven’t prayed for either, now would be a good time to do so. With a month left before the election, the rhetoric, insults, and potentially hidden deeds are going to become more pronounced.
Remember, however, that we are Believers first. Get into all the political discussions you like, but remember this verse before you enter in.
You won’t regret the gentle reminder.
