Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him. But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin. “What are we accomplishing?” they asked. “Here is this man performing many signs. If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.” John 11:45-48

Many believed because of what Jesus had done with Lazarus. Some didn’t, and headed straight to the leaders to report on Jesus. They were the “tattle tales” of their day.

The point in today’s devotional is simple. All of those people saw the miracle. The “some” who went to the leaders in a sense ignored the miracle and reported the facts. The greatest preachers and sermons in the world will just not convince some. Jesus Himself performing a miracle did not convince some.

The Holy Spirit must first draw that person. That’s the case in all of our ministries, and the thing we often forget when the “numbers” aren’t great.
