Oh, the Stories He Told!

34 Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. 35 So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet:

“I will open my mouth in parables,
I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.” Matthew 13:34-35

Jesus had a way of bringing together pieces of prophecy for the commoner to understand. We have concordances and countless books that can explain, extrapolate, interpolate, and cross-reference Old and New Testament texts as well as just Old Testament texts.

Jesus was making the Word of God understandable for all, including those who would read it in the year 2020 A.D.

The four Gospels record 70 parables in total. They are for our consumption, edification, reproof, and understanding.

Because Jesus emphasized parables, we should study what He spoke.

The crowds no doubt heard the parables multiple times if they were following Him around.

It was then that they could absorb His teachings and meanings.

They like us need to hear something many times before it sinks in.

Read the remaining parables with those thoughts in mind. Read each a few times and meditate on them.

What was He trying to convey?
What were some of the nuances to what He said?
How can you apply what He said to your life in 2020?
