7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy. Psalm 45:7
As a continued reference to Jesus Christ and his reign, the sons of Korah paint a picture of an exalted Christ, and Him being anointed with joy.
Joy is that character quality that’s hard to explain but evident when you see it. It’s different than happiness though they are related. Joy is an internal contentment that permeates the body. When you see a joyful person, you know it. Even when that person doesn’t have his “game face” on, you know he’s content. Very little moves him.
As the psalmist writes, we see the imagery of an anointed king with oil running down his head and onto his shoulders.
May that kind of joy ooze down our bodies as we consider the wonderful and fascinating life Christ has given us.
