My son, pay attention to my wisdom, listen well to my words of insight,
that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge. Proverbs 5:1-2
Once again we come to a section in Proverbs that the author prefaces with “pay attention.” When the Scripture prepares us like this, we should take heed for the advice is going to be great and worthy of our attention. Too often, we pass right over these lines on our way to “the good stuff.” What we don’t realize is that these two lines are like a yellow, bolded, 24 point font, calling out to us, “listen up.” When we obey what follows, we will be walking on that straight path the author talked about earlier.
But first we have to settle in and prepare our hearts for what follows. And you know it’s gonna be good.
