15 He sends his command to the earth;
his word runs swiftly.
16 He spreads the snow like wool
and scatters the frost like ashes.
17 He hurls down his hail like pebbles.
Who can withstand his icy blast?
18 He sends his word and melts them;
he stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow. Psalm 147:15-18
We know from the New Testament that the elements obey Jesus. When He commanded the winds and the waves to stop, they did. Just like that. He causes Alaska to experience -33 degree and snowing weather, Texas 65 degrees and raining, and Florida 90 degrees and sunny all in the same hour. Amazing.
One little word of God melts ice and causes flooding.
Recall in Martin Luther’s hymn “A Might Fortress” these words:
And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.
That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God’s truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.
What was that “one little word”?
Jesus. No matter what language it’s in, Jesus is the most powerful word in the language.
Let that sink in through the rest of today.
