Oomph

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.” When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” Luke 2:9-10

To accent what the angel of the Lord had just said, a great company of angels appeared. Can you imagine what the boys were thinking?

To begin that evening, the shepherd boys were tending their sheep, then the angel of the Lord appears. This angel then proceeds to tells them a life-changing message, and a ton of angels culminate the interaction with praise to God. If this didn’t overwhelm the boys, nothing would.

So, they made a bee line to the manger to see the baby.

The baby was the prize, the reason they shepherds were there, the reason that God went to such trouble to interrupt shepherd boys in the first place.

So it is the same this Christmas Day. The prize is certainly not the gifts or the tree or the decorations or the joyous merriment.

The prize is Jesus.
