One day as I and a friend from church were coming off the El train in Chicago, we were met with a man with two doberman pinschers on their leashes. For some reason both dogs growled and lunged at me. Instinctively, Mike pulled me away so that he was in front of the danger instead of me being right there next to the dogs.

Our Lord has the power to be that kind of a defender in our lives. More importantly, though, is that He is also the guardian of our souls. Nothing can snatch if from His hands. He can protect us from the onslaught of discouragement, depressing thoughts, worry, and people who would seek to destroy us. Satan would love to see us destroyed and does everything in his power to do just that.

But our Defender is ready and willing to pull us away from the danger.
