Now this was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.”
They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?”
He said, “I am not.”
“Are you the Prophet?”
He answered, “No.”
Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’” John 1:19-23
Every generation has their ‘John the Baptists.’ The clothes, language, and demeanors are different but the message remains: “I am a voice of one calling in the wilderness. Make straight the way for the Lord.” Except our ‘John the Baptists’ are many.
Our John the Baptists speak out against human trafficking and injustice.
Our John the Baptists raise their voices against persecution.
Our John the Baptists think nothing about their own lives, but of those they love.
Our John the Baptists love truth and are willing to die to defend the truth.
You may never hear the names of our John the Baptists but they live and move in many countries of the world, teaching, preaching, and leading people to Christ. When you hear about these brave men and women of God, pray for them. Pray that God will continue to give them boldness and a burden for their people.
