Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;

surely I have a delightful inheritance. Psalm 16:5-8

It’s a truly awesome thing to consider that God has given us an inheritance. Even King David – a very wealthy man – recognized that having an inheritance from Almighty God was an incredible gift. He called that inheritance delightful. This “portion” or inheritance transcends anything the world could give us – and David clearly understood that.

How different would our lives change if we understood just exactly what our inheritance meant?

• What would we do differently?
• Would our prayers and witness be bolder?
• Would our everyday speech be gentler and more gracious?

I know our lives would change if we fully understood our inheritance, but it’s up to each of us to consider how that truth would impact us.
