For,
“Whoever would love life
and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
1 Peter 3:10
The tongue is a powerful force for evil and good, the Bible tells us and we know from first hand experience.
We have to be reminded of its power on a regular basis.
But before the words come from our mouths, it just first reside in our heart, also as Scripture says.
The question ultimately becomes, what are we feeding our hearts every day?
- Do we neglect Scripture?
- Do we soak up the internet and television more than Scripture?
- Do we “veg” in front of the computer or tv just to pass the time?
- What are we doing with the thoughts that are in our head?
Scripture tells us to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).
Our thoughts feed our hearts, and our hearts feeds what comes out of our mouths.
How would everything in our life change if we were to control just that one area of our lives? But, it’s a mindful and decision to take captive those thoughts because Satan will not let you and me off the hook.
