In His Hand and Under His Care

No king is saved by the size of his army;
no warrior escapes by his great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;
despite all its great strength it cannot save.
18 But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
19 to deliver them from death
and keep them alive in famine. Psalm 33:16-19

We say it often as well we should, but our life truly is in God’s hands.

God’s not overly concerned about the number of armies formed against Him or His people.
He has no concern about the intellectual prowess of scientists or brilliant men and women.

But instead, He watches over us, drawing us to Himself, guiding us to do things that please Him.

As you go through each day, picture God just walking beside you or behind you, coaxing you to do one thing and steering you away from something else. Knowing this should melt away our fears and cares. Literally, if God is with us, who could be against us?

Why Do They Conspire?

Why do the nations conspire
and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth rise up
and the rulers band together
against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
3 “Let us break their chains
and throw off their shackles.” Psalm 2:1-3

It has been said that history is the best teacher. I would add, though, that government leaders are either the worst or most arrogant students of it.

Whether it’s communism, socialism, atheism, authoritarianism, fascism, or even raw unrestrained capitalism, leaders just do not learn. Or perhaps they just believe their brand of the -ism will be better this time because they’re in charge. It always happens that way

History is full of these cases where leaders ruled with an iron hand but expected mercy when they were inevitably and ruthlessly overthrown.

We’re seeing this type of arrogance around the world. Unfortunately, news media has done a fantastic job of ignoring most of it because it doesn’t fit their idea of how it’s supposed to work.

In other words, the truth is different than what they’d like it to be.

Fortunately, the truth does slip out and get into the media because citizen journalists have phones and cameras. They too are tired of the “real” media intentionally ignoring big news.

If you’re following the news outside of the mainstream, life is terrifying.

If you follow the mainstream, you may think that the vaccinations and COVID is the only thing in the world happening.

I, of course, invite you to read alternative media to get a more balanced view of events around the world – and even in your area.

The kings are conspiring against the Lord and His people. We do know the end result, but they will still make considerable efforts trying to dethrone the One Who Cannot Be Dethroned.

The Anguish of My Soul

I hate those who cling to worthless idols;
as for me, I trust in the Lord.
7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love,
for you saw my affliction
and knew the anguish of my soul. Psalm 31:6-7

Many reading this post know intimately well the last sentence of this passage: anguish of my soul. Many may even be experiencing this anguish

Through situations and relationships and life, you are distressed and troubled.

You’ve cried out many times but nobody hears.

Even God doesn’t seem to be hearing your cries. If He’s hearing it, He’s certainly not responding to it.

If we’re honest, we all have experienced that multiple times in our lives.

But you pressed on, you pushed through.

It wasn’t easy; it never is, but it’s worth it.

Write down what you’re experiencing so that when you do come through – and you will – then you have a record of what you were experiencing during those moments. When you document how God met you, it’s an even more powerful statement of His mercy and grace.

Call somebody to talk.

Talk it through.

Get guidance and counsel.

Get perspective from those who are not in the thick of it.

You’re not in this alone though it may seem that way.

Others are willing to help you bear your burdens if you let them. It really is what the Christian life is about.

In His Hands

But I trust in you, Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”
15 My times are in your hands;
deliver me from the hands of my enemies,
from those who pursue me. Psalm 31:14-15

Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12

David wrote the first set of verses, and Moses wrote Psalm 90. They both knew that their days were fleeting and they were not in control of them.

These last two years many have been frightened to death because of the virus. Now many more a being frightened because of the solution – the vaccine.

But God is certainly over all these events. He knows when we are appointed to die and how, so living our lives in fear is futile. Now, that doesn’t mean we go out and put God to the test by doing stupid things because then a modern colloquialism comes into play: play stupid games, win stupid prizes. In other words, there are consequences for actions we take.

But to live in fear? Eh, who needs it?

Our life is in God’s hands whether we choose to accept it or not.

The Upper Hand

Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.

3 The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders,
the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.
4 The voice of the Lord is powerful;
the voice of the Lord is majestic.
5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes Lebanon leap like a calf,
Sirion like a young wild ox.
7 The voice of the Lord strikes
with flashes of lightning.
8 The voice of the Lord shakes the desert;
the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.
9 The voice of the Lord twists the oaks
and strips the forests bare.
And in his temple all cry, “Glory!”

10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
the Lord is enthroned as King forever.
11 The Lord gives strength to his people;
the Lord blesses his people with peace. Psalm 29

When you read a full chapter of Psalms such as this, you get the general sense that God is in complete control.

You get that perception because He actually is in control. even the crazy political scenarios we find ourselves in, He’s in control of that.

He knows who’s going to win, who’s going to see jail time in this life time, who’s going to walk free, but as we all know, justice in this life is imperfect at best, and downright corrupt and injustice at its worst.

We try to right that corruption the best we can with what we have at our disposal, but people more powerful than us sometimes have the upper hand. No matter.

If they do have the upper hand that’s all they have because another life awaits them, one where they will definitely not be to their liking. They, of course, don’t believe that’s what will happen but it’s to their detriment they don’t believe it.

So, rejoice, Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal, Almighty God we serve. He has no equal and nothing mankind says or does deters Him from being God.

He sees all things, hears all things, and knows all things. There are no secrets with God and nothing is hidden from Him.

Glory to God in the highest!
