Peter was the kind of guy you want to have on your side. He’s will defend you to the death – quite literally – but he’s also hot headed. Some would say he’s really passionate. Lots of people have speculated that he wasn’t going for the ear and the servant dodged a certain death. In other words, Peter probably wasn’t aiming for the ear but the head attached to the ear.

That’s the kind of people we need to have as friends: loyal and passionate and fighters. (Similarly, that’s the kind of friends we need to be sometimes.)
