Personal Ministry

9 The Lord watches over the foreigner
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. Psalm 146:9

In Scripture you’ll see these three people groups together. There has been quite a bit of press about the “foreigner” and some about the fatherless. Virtually nothing is discussed about the widow. Those were three very oppressed people groups in Bible times and, to a large extent, today as well.

Rather than dwell on the current hot political debate regarding refugees and illegal immigrants in Europe and the United States, perhaps it’s best to focus on what the Scripture tells us about these groups: He’s got a keen eye for them. The Bible also encourages us strongly to help out each of these groups.

As a quick side note: Isn’t it interesting that even with our wealth, technology, and know how, these three groups still get overlooked because they are forgotten.

Prayerfully consider ministering regularly to one of these groups as a personal ministry.

Three possible ministries come to mind: teaching English as a Second Language for foreigners, visiting a nursing home for widows, and becoming a Big Brother/Big Sister for the orphans.
