1 Hear me, Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Psalm 86:1
Being poor and needy rings true for most of us, though many of us don’t realize it. We seek self-sufficiency but don’t realize that it’s not how we were designed. I believe we were designed to be needy. How so?
Most things in life simply do not satisfy. Becoming wealthy and famous doesn’t satisfy your soul. You seek more of it, and when you get it, you’re still miserable. We go back to Pascal again: within everyone is a God-shaped void. But the thing is, there are millions of well-meaning Believers spend great portions of their lives to achieve wealth and fame. Unfortunately they are left empty even when they are able to obtain it.
The Bible teaches us to Proverbs 4:23 “guard our hearts for it is the wellspring of life.” That is sound wisdom.
