Practicing Gentleness

2 to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone. Titus 3:2

Here are three parts of the same theme: gentleness. It’s certainly lacking in our fast-paced, me-me-me culture, isn’t it? Fortunately we have the best model in the world for gentleness, the Lord Jesus Himself. He was always gentle towards his sheep, those who were lost and confused. He came down hard on the religious leaders of his time. That too had a gentle quality to it because he could have rained down fire and brimstone for what they were doing to the people!

I’ve said this many times in this space, but people need encouragement. Maybe not today, but tomorrow for certain. They’ll get all the harshness they need from others.

Now, is there a place for tough love and abruptness? Absolutely, but I daresay it’s less than you think.

Don’t mistake gentleness for weakness. Not at all. It’s the proverbial “putting yourselves in the other person’s shoes for a day” scenario.

Be gentle with someone today, gentler than you’ve ever been. It’s the Christ-way.
