“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” Luke 22:31-32
This is certainly one of the more interesting and curious prayers of Jesus, but we can apply it to others in our lives. I’ve not considered it but praying for someone’s faith to not fail is similar to praying for their strength.
But Jesus didn’t pray for strength in this instance, did He?
One can have strength all day long but it’s easy to get disheartened by life.
Things, people, and events just wear us down.
They disappoint.
We disappoint.
We sometimes just want to throw up our hands and give up! There’s so much opposing us and our faith, it’s a wonder we still have any faith at all.
But God’s grace sustains us.
So praying for someone’s faith to not fail is a very real and encouraging prayer and one we should put in our arsenal of prayers for others. It’s a simple but powerful prayer.
