When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. Proverbs 11:2
Have you ever seen a prideful person take a fall? “He deserved it,” we say. “We had it coming.”
We can clearly recognize the pride in others, but do we ever see it in ourselves? Chances are good that it can be a “blind spot.” Others, though, if you ask them, will let us know. Pride can be as brash as the leader of Iran taking on the military giants of the Western World, or as subtle as us looking down our noses at the homeless begging for money at intersections.
The next time you recognize pride in someone else, ask yourself how far you are on the spectrum of pride: “None at all” to “I’m God’s gift to Mankind!” Then ask someone ask to rate you like that. Compare your notes.
