3 Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, 2 when they see the purity and reverence of your lives.

1 Peter 3:1-2

These two verses mainly address the wives of unbelieving husbands. Both purity and reverence stand out as qualities essential for these women (as opposed to nagging and complaining). I’ve known quite a few women like this over the years, who have modeled the Christ-like life and in fact did win over their husbands. They had every reason to complain, but they didn’t.

The corollary to this is that the women need the support and care of like-minded believers because the grind and the pain these women go through are both real.

God bless the women who must endure these hardships on behalf of Christ. They deserve our respect and prayers.
