4 For the Lord takes delight in his people;
he crowns the humble with victory.
5 Let his faithful people rejoice in this honor
and sing for joy on their beds. Psalm 149:4-5
We need to be reminded often that God delights in us, His creation. What does that even mean to the Creator of the Universe? And why does He delight in us?
Neither of those questions are entirely answerable except to say that God delights in His creation. He just is.
- When the master painter steps back and looks at his work, he’s delighted. Why? It’s his unique creation. There is none like it in the world.
- When a parent attends the choral concert her child is in, she’s delighted despite the occasional screech and off-key sound the group sings. Why because her kid made the effort and spent long hours practicing with fifty other students who spent that same amount of time rehearsing and memorizing the music. The resulting sound is delightful to the mother’s ears.
- When a mother helps her toddler paint, they both can step back and smile. Why? Because her daughter created something out of nothing at such a tender age. That’s delight in its purest form. There will be no other art in the world that will compare to this masterpiece to the mother.
So how does all of that relate to us? God loves it when you write or sing or paint or just dance around the room. He loves it when you turn off the radio in the car and just tune into Him. He loves it when you belt out a song to His glory. And of course He loves it when you take steps to honor Him.
And yet, if we don’t do any of those things, He’d still delight in us. Rejoice in that knowledge today.
