In Pursuit

1 You have rejected us, God, and burst upon us;
you have been angry—now restore us! Psalm 60:1

If you’re like me, you’ve felt a bit of the anger of God. Not a lot, mind you because if we did, we couldn’t bear it. No, just enough to know that we’ve displeased Him in some way. The “anger” seems to melt away as you draw closer to Him. But is it really anger or something else, perhaps a feeling?

When King David wrote this, he had experienced God’s anger. He also knew the history of his people and how they repeatedly turned away from God only to come back after God chased after them. Think about that for a second. Who did the pursuing? It was the Lord. Even in Israel’s waywardness, God pursued.

Even in the midst of our rebellion towards God, He will pursue us. I accept what I just wrote and believe it, but I have one question to leave you.

Why does He continue to pursue us?
