Quietly Lend a Hand

33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all 34 that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need. Acts 4:33-35

There was a time not so long ago that the church exclusively helped the poor. Unfortunately the government has taken over that role and now helps the poor. Churches and individuals within those churches still help the poor but the bulk of the assistance comes through welfare. That is unfortunate because giving always helps the giver and the recipient.

God still calls us to help the poor and the needy, the orphans and the widows. Just because the government throws a lot of money at the problem doesn’t mean the problem goes away. There are situations all around us where we can lend a hand quietly and without making a big scene about it.

Consider one thing you can do this week to help someone less fortunate. You will be glad you did.
