Quite Dispensable

5 What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. 6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. 7 So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. 9 For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building. 1 Corinthians 3:5-9

No person in the Kingdom of God is indispensable. Even though the vocal gifts (preaching, teaching, prophecy, evangelism) get more attention, they are not more important than serving, encouraging, and doing menial tasks.

A man approached the pastor of a large church and asked what he could do, anything at all The man rattled off his gifts and qualifications, and waited for the pastor to respond. The pastor said the full time janitor had just quit, and could the man fill that position?

You see, the man expected a prestigious teaching position but the pastor wanted to know if the man was sincere.

Many seek the more vocal gifts, but there are many more serving and compassion needs than those that require a knowledgeable speaker.

Again, we all serve a purpose in the Kingdom. The important point to make is that it is the Holy Spirit who grows the seeds.
