Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 12:18
Just today I asked a gentleman where a co-worker was. Another co-worker proceeded to tell me that he had taken his wife to the doctor’s and then after that to an event his child was in. After a two minute explanation, I thanked the man, then told him sarcastically that a “he’s not here” would have sufficed, to which he replied, “you asked me where he was and I told you.”
Unfortunately, my default is sarcasm, more often to my detriment. I am quick to regret my thoughtless comments, but even with an apology after the fact, the damage is done. It would be better if I didn’t have to apologize in the first place.
