Redemption Story

Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Proverbs 28:13

Why do most burglaries happen at night? Because the darkness conceals the deed. Why do people hide their sin (even though we all know that God sees and knows everything)? To conceal their deeds from other people. People are becoming more and more brazen as time goes on, but for the most part, people hide their sins when possible. They’re ashamed of what they do so they hide.

The second half to this verse is beautiful. Both parts to the verse is the Redemption Story in a nutshell. We sin. We confess and renounce. God shows mercy. Many might rightly argue that God shows mercy so that we are able to confess and renounce. The point, though, is that there is a redemption waiting for us. Freely given.

It’s a mystery that confounds the scholars, the mystery of God’s mercy and grace. We would do well to think about it often.
