Repetition is the Mother of Learning

Now then, my sons, listen to me; do not turn aside from what I say. Proverbs 5:7

In the middle of the author’s instruction, he stops and reminds his listeners – us – to stay the course. Obviously what follows is of utmost importance. In fact, we’re tempted to shout back at the text and say, “okay, already. We get it. We get that you want us to listen to what you have to say. We totally get it.”

There’s a reason he repeats these kinds of phrases over and over: because we don’t get it. If we did, there’d be no need for the repetition.

Sometimes it’s a matter of just slowing down and taking the time to ponder the verses. As you read through the next verses, pause to reflect on their meaning.
