Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. Proverbs 31:23

This is the first of two verses that specifically address the husband in this chapter. The husband is respected in the business world for at least two reasons: first, he is worthy of respect because of his solid character, and secondly, the woman in his life helped to give him that status by being virtuous herself. What I mean by that is, if she weren’t virtuous, he’d be the laughing stock in the work place. No one would respect him.

So, in a roundabout way, he gains some respect through mate.

How does that affect us? Often we don’t know how our lives influence others. Think about this when you’re tempted to gossip about someone, when you tell that little white lie to cover up a minor indiscretion, or when you become angry at another driver.
