Rich and Poor

Better the poor whose walk is blameless than the rich whose ways are perverse. Proverbs 28:6

Living in a wealthy country, it’s easy to come across people who want you to become wealthy. It’s a multi-billion dollar industry online. It’s not difficult at all to “catch the bug,” so to speak, to desire a luxurious lifestyle, sitting by a pool doing nothing all day.

But God’s ways are different. Think about this verse. God says it is better to be righteous and poor than to be corrupt and rich. Then the question that just begs to be asked, “well, can’t we be righteous and rich?”

I think the point of this verse has little to do with wealth, and more to do with righteousness. Does God bless wealthy righteous people? Of course. Does he bless poor righteous people? Of course.

How much money you have in your pocket has absolutely no bearing on how righteous you are. None.
