Risky Business

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Matthew 7:1-2

Judging other people is risky business though we do it more than we care to admit. In fact, to be successful you have to exercise a certain amount of discernment and judgement when making hiring decisions, for example.

I think this is bigger than mere discernment. The judgment Jesus is talking about is condemnation. ‘Do not condemn or you too will be condemned’ makes perfect sense in this context. Now, the question is, do we condemn others unrashly? Do we prejudge people based on outward appearances? Well, often people want us to prejudge them.

For example, if someone with nose rings and purple hair approaches me in a business setting, that person is pushing others to come to a quick judgement about them. They may not see it like that, but they are. This person may be the best in the business at what they do, but they still are expecting you to notice and judge them (and are offended when you actually do). Same could be said of the LGBTQ community. They push for a reaction and often get one.

We can call them out on their abnormal behavior but it’s not ours to condemn. Unfortunately that line is getting much more difficult to discern now that many churches have adopted a “gay-friendly” experience and have all but embraced the homosexual agenda.

Something to consider: that community in particular has already targeted, prejudged, and condemned the true Christian church. They will do what they can to destroy the family because it’s a direct affront to their hostile agenda.

They still are sinners in need of the Gospel just like we are. They need to see and hear the truth.
