For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil;
but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword. Proverbs 5:3-4

Without question these verses are directed at men. And there really is no doubt what it’s trying to say: stay away from the seductive woman!

But before the ladies go pointing fingers at the guys, this is definitely an area that women can fall into as well, though it’s more subtle than the physical attraction of a beautiful woman. Just look at all the things that seduce men and women alike:

• You can have the great looking body you’ve always wanted (poss. to make your husband wild with jealousy at all the attention you’ll be getting).
• Diamonds are a girl’s best friend (the “bigger is better” notion).
• You need more money.
• You deserve better.

There are others more crude than this, but the idea the world seduces us with is that we will never be satisfied with who we are and what we have. Like I said, it’s subtle but unfortunately the church in the West has latched on to many of the precepts.

Take some time to examine some of these thoughts that have crept into our thinking and turn them over to God.
