Make plans by seeking advice; if you wage war, obtain guidance. Proverbs 20:18
Advice is a good thing and we should avail ourselves of the opportunities to get advice when the situation calls for it. Make sure, though, you don’t surround yourself with people who would only be “yes” people. You need advice but you also need what I call “straight shooters,” someone who will advise you when you’re in the wrong too.
In the example in the verse, it’s good to get counsel when going to war. If the only people advising the decision makers are the military, it’s not good, just as it’s not good for civilians only to dish out advice. They need a balance but one of honest forthright counsel.
Regarding this, pray for the leaders of your country. Pray that they will make wise well-thought out decisions regarding the wars they involve their nations in.
