When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. John 16:8-11
After Jesus left, He sent the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was sent to remind (1) sinners of their sin and their waywardness, (2) Believers of the importance of living a righteous life, and (3) all of us that there will be a judgement. Now I realize that this is an oversimplification of this verse but the one thing that we all need to understand is this: we are not the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit convicts; we do not. As we shine the light on sin and the world’s ways, we need to get out of the way and let the Holy Spirit work. At times it’s very easy to meddle where the Holy Spirit should be the one convicting.
The bottom line is this: let the Holy Spirit have full reign in people’s lives. only He can convict; and only He can draw people near to Himself.
