Strength in Weakness

My faithful love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted. Psalm 89:24

Throughout the Old Testament, the “horn” was a sign of strength. Throughout David’s life, it is possible to see God’s hand working in and through David. He was a man of great success and a man of big moral failure. His family paid dearly for his sin. He paid dearly for his sin. Through it all, though, God protected him.

We are like David more than we like to admit. It’s in our weakness that God is exalted. One great paradox of the Christian life is that “our weakness is our strength.” Unfortunately that theme is not preached about or even talked about much anymore. It’s central to the Christian life.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9
