Taking Stock

You have granted him his heart’s desire
and have not withheld the request of his lips.
You came to greet him with rich blessings
and placed a crown of pure gold on his head.
He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—
length of days, for ever and ever. Psalm 21:2-4

David seems to be speaking in the third person here (talking about himself but not saying it blatantly), and in his own way praising the Lord for what’s He’s given him. “This is what I asked for; this is what you gave me.” He’s taking stock of things in his life.

Every so often we sing the song “Count your blessings” in church. It’s a great little song and a reminder of what’s important. Most of the times, it’s the little things that matter: the kind words, the smile of a loved one, the inexpensive but thoughtful gift, the note card in the mail, the laughter and the tears.

It’s that time again, time to take stock of our situation.

I appreciate those who have written and encouraged me throughout the course of this blog. Today’s is the 2000th consecutive daily post! It’s been a fun ride thus far, and I believe we’ve only covered a small portion of the Bible.

Count your blessings, name them one by one.

Count your blessings see what God has done

Count your blessings, name them one by one

Count your many blessings, see what God has done.
