Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.
Know also that wisdom is like honey for you: If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 24:13-14
The idea of honey being compared to wisdom is wonderful. It’s not a difficult concept or application of truth. We like sweet things. A multi-billion dollar industry of sweets continues to flourish. We have cakes, pies, torts, cookies, chocolate, ice cream, and candy to name a few. They’re all centered around the same thing: sugar.
How would our lives change if we viewed wisdom the same way we view, say, ice cream or chocolate? Perhaps we should take tidbits of wisdom and savor them like we do wedding cake.
The next time you reach for that ice cream, force yourself to read a verse or two of Proverbs and meditate on it for as long as you’re eating that sweet.
