The Blessed Nation

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
the people he chose for his inheritance. Psalm 33:12

While it would be easy to equate material wealth with blessings from God, it’s very difficult to distinguish between the two.

I’ve heard an apt illustration a few time over the past weeks that highlights this point. Two men are walking down the street with a dog following behind. It is impossible to determine the master until the two men go their separate ways. After the split occurs, it will be very apparent who the master is. The dog will easily follow the master.

For the West, Christianity and material blessing are walking down the street and (forgive me) we are the dog tagging along. What will happen when the prosperity is gone? Who will we follow?

Occasionally we hear of nations whose leaders are doing their best to be godly men and women. They may not be wealthy but they are doing their best with what they have. They’re trying to contain and root out the corruption and deceit, but it’s an uphill battle. However, Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.

It’s certainly not too late for our nation to return to it’s Judeo-Christian roots. In fact, it’s never too late.
