Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise. Proverbs 20:1

As I’ve stated elsewhere, there’s nothing in the Bible that tells us to abstain from alcohol. What is clear with verses such as this is that to get drunk because of the alcohol is very wrong, or as the Bible says “not wise.” You lose your senses; you get obnoxious when you’re under the influence of alcohol. You just get stupid when you drink excessively.

Instead, Ephesians 5:18 states: “And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit.” It’s a command we should all learn to complement the verse in Proverbs.
