She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. Proverbs 31:16

The Proverbs 31 woman is frugal. She has only so much money to spend on unnecessary things. Even if she’s wealthy, she has to realize that it might not last forever. Plus she is considerate towards others in her giving.

Many divorces in the West occur over the subject of money and finances. If one person is frivolous and the other is more frugal, there is bound to be tension at the very least. Likewise, if one person makes the money and the other spends it faster than is made, there is bound to be tension.

These are lifestyle issues that I’m sure are not resolved in one devotional. But it’s more than that. It’s a communications and trust issue, another major cause of divorce in the West.

Today as you consider these words, how are you doing with money?

Do you spend more than you take in?
Do you nag because he/she doesn’t earn enough for your tastes?
Do you live within your means?

Many of those reading this have very few issues with finances in their family. For those who do not have this issue under control though, (and I suspect there are many) consider seeking third party advice, whether it be a pastor, counselor, or a friend who understands budgeting and personal finances.
