51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people. Matthew 27:51-53

This portion of the crucifixion story still amazes me. The tombs released all these holy people. What a testimony to the life-giving power of Christ. These were people who probably saw unspeakable things and were now testifying about the glories of God before their former friends and family. Talk about a captive audience. Everyone would be hanging on their every word.

Of course we don’t know what these people saw or heard while they were dead, but they did know what to look forward to when they died again.

We get only a glimpse of what they saw, and much of that our mind creates and tries to make sense of what we read. However, what we do know is certainly worth spreading.
