Gold there is, and rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel. Proverbs 20:15
The contrast in this verse between what you can see and touch versus what you can experience is large, though we in the West tend to get it turned around. Wealth and the things you can touch are the most important elements of life here.
When I get the opportunity, I love sitting in the presence of the elderly. They are nearing the end of their life’s journey, and probably could give a wit about money they have or don’t have. They have the knowledge and wisdom that we need because they’ve done it all and said it all. If only there was a way that they could break through to us about the insignificance of wealth. If they told us in no uncertain terms, would we listen?
So, consider, then, the wisdom of the ages: Gold there is, and rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel. Proverbs 20:15
