The Light

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:4-5

This is the first reference to the Light in the Book of John. It’s an important contrast from darkness carried throughout Scripture. Light is the not the opposite of darkness, but the absence of darkness.

It’s one light shining in the darkness. One single light, and yet all the darkness in all the world cannot overcome it.

One light shining into the deep recesses of our hearts, exposing it, cleansing it, purifying it, that is, if we let Him.

The Light of all mankind shines as bright as when this verse was written. No dictator, skeptic, or evil can diminish its brilliance. Its contrast with darkness is even more distinct in the face of adversity.
