The Living Stone and a Chosen People

4 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:4-5

If Christ was rejected by humans and accepted by God, our status in life is similar.

We are often rejected for what we believe (and often it’s what people think we believe).

But God has chosen us.

That statement alone should encourage and embolden. It’s so much more than we could ever ask for.

So, what’s the catch? Well, we have the opportunity to offer Him spiritual sacrifices. What are those spiritual sacrifices?

Obedience, prayer, love, compassion, mercy, to name a few. None of those sacrifices require much on our part, except perhaps a willingness to do some things that are outside of our strengths. They’re not weaknesses, per se, it’s just that if we’re out of practice, it’s a little more difficult.

But doing those things and other like it helps us to build that spiritual house Peter referred to.
