The Orderly God

5 Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, 6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. Genesis 2:5-6

Just as God made the known universe out of nothing, so He made the springs of the earth bubble up to the surface to water the vegetation. Without vegetation, nobody eats. The animals don’t eat. And certainly humans cannot eat either the vegetation or animals. It was the perfect logical order of things.

But what significance does it have for us today? You’ve been praying for a breakthrough in some matter. You have no idea how it will all come about. Then one thing after another seems to fall into place, little things at first, but then you notice that your prayer has been answered. All the little pieces added up. He didn’t answer it the way or the order you thought, but He answered it nonetheless. If it had been up to us, we would have created humans and worried about food later.

The point is this: when you pray for God to answer your prayer, let Him answer it. In other words, don’t “dictate” to Him how you think it should be answered. Of course you can and should certainly try any way you want to pray about the matter. It’s just that His timing and manners are far superior to our. He’s got the details all worked out.
