A clear prophecy to the scene in which Jesus shares his bread with Judas, this verse shows that even good friends may turn on you. Usually those “cuts” hurt the most.

Without a doubt, there’s someone in this reading audience who has experienced this recently with a friend or relative. You feel betrayed and hurt and frustrated. You want to make amends but not sure how to go about it (especially since the person wants nothing to do with you and may be hostile towards you). We’ve all experienced this but it certainly doesn’t make it easier.

Let me pray for you.

Lord Jesus,
We can control what we can control, but not others’ feelings toward us. You know the reading audience and what they’re experiencing right now. You know the people who have tried to mend the relationship but the other party just doesn’t want to hear anything about it. Would you soften their hearts. Draw them to you, and begin restoration of those relationships. Let them air out their dirty laundry if necessary, but certainly get them talking again.
